The Baby Book
William & Martha Sears

There are many, many essential pieces of knowledge in this book. You will find yourself going to it whenever you have a question.

But please totally disregard his advice on vaccinations and fluoride. Read "vaccination myths" and the books referenced there. Learn how vaccinations kill and maim children. eg They have mercury and formaldehyde in them. There is NO safe levels for these poisonous substances. Flouride is also a poison, rated 4/5 on the international level of poisons.

But he is totally correct that there is no alternative to breast-feeding. It is SO much easier to never have any washing up, to ALWAYS have ready food on hand, no matter where you are. And to have it ready the instant your baby cries.

And since breast fed babies poop is yellow and sweet-smelling, and formula-fed babies poop is green and foul-smelling, you KNOW it is going to help your baby for the rest of his life. Even if you have stopped breast-feeding, you might like to try visualisation and a manual breast-feeder and having the baby suckle you to get it going again - do a search on "male lactation" - if men can lactate, you sure can!!!!

Also, he doesn't do enough to stress the importance of giving plenty of water to your baby once she starts eating solid foods. (And maybe when she is on formula? who knows - this food is NOT what nature intended your baby to digest).

Baby Minds

This book is totally excellent in encouraging parents to stimulate their baby's mind from birth.

But he is rather limited in some ways. It is all about stimulating logic, not so much about creativity. For example, the authors believe that a good MEMORY is what is needed to excel at school. That is what is wrong with the school system! We need to stimulate the ability to think, not just to remember.

So, in addition to this book, have your baby look at things of NATURE, where there is infinite variations. eg silk roses, hang spirals, pictures of nature - not just geometric black and white things.

The Breastfeeding Book

Dr William Sears excellent "The Breastfeeding Book" he reports the research of Dr Kettwyler. By looking at LARGE primates, it appears that the natural age for weaning for humans should be from four to seven years old.

If you think about it, teeth are an essential part of digestion. Therefore, babies should not be weaned fully until they have ALL their teeth, which is often not until 2.5 or 3 years old. There are so many benefits to both the baby AND the mother of breastfeeding, that it is a crime that we do not do it and do not do it for longer. In Europe, it is quite common for babies to be breast fed to five years old.

There is no question: If you want a health, happy, intelligent baby (which of course you do), nothing comes close to breastmilk from a mother who eats healthy food. Formula doesn't even come close. For example, there are ingredients such as Essential Fatty Acids in breast milk which are essential for brain growth, which aren't in formula.. Your child's birth is a miracle. You know that. Know also that only nature knows how to give your baby the very best food for maintaining health for the rest of his life. However, it's not as easy as it looks at first, so a good book like this one is a huge help. But PLEASE make sure you see a lactation consultant if you have any problems with breastfeeding - they are terrific!!!!!!!

Robert S. Medn Gregory J. White, M.D.

Excellent little book that demystifies the whole thing. As I read elsewhere "so easy, even an 8-year-old could do it".

Although it's called "a manual" it is quite small and won't take you long to read at all.

HOROWITZ ON VACCINES
by Dr Len Horowitz

AUDIO TAPE. ESSENTIAL LISTENING!

This tape will grip your attention!  Dr Horowitz, a Harvard graduate with a degree in public health, is probably the world authority on the dangers of vaccinations. He is also an excellent speaker.  This tape gives you much of the information you need to know  about the dangers of vaccines.

Lots of practical advice on birth, feeding, fevers, temperature, understanding pediatricians etc.etc.

The author has the right idea: Pregnancy sickness is GOOD for you because it protects your baby from toxins.

Women who don't have pregnancy nausea have THREE TIMES the chance of miscarriage or birth defects.

She explains how vegetables produce toxins which are harmless to adults, but dangerous for babies.

The author recommends eating maily fruit and grains, plus some dairy, in the first 3-4 months.

However, she is quite wrong on quite a lot of other advice: For example, she says that artificial sweetener is okay! She obviously doesn't know how dangerous aspartame is!

Incredible website!!!  52 Chapters that tell you a lot of what you should know, and that doctors are unlikely to tell you. BUT NOTE:

1) She says you don't need to visit a doctor after you have a baby. I disagree. Your baby should see a doctor who is happy to not give vaccinations after it is born if for no other reason than to have it's bilirubin checked. If it is high it can cause jaundice and lead to brain damage. And the remedy is ultraviolet lights or sunlight. Note that Robert Mendelsohn in "How to raise a healthy child in spite of your doctor says that there are problems with ultraviolet lights.

2) DO find yourself a lactation consultant before you have your baby. Breastfeeding is harder than it looks, and getting it right is just about the most important thing you can do for your baby and yourself! (There is NO better way to ensure your baby's health now and in the future. And when a baby is screaming for food/water, it is much, much easier to stick a nipple in its mouth than to wait ages for a bottle to be made up. Plus there is no washing up! And the hormones it will release in you will help you to have the strength to get through nights with less sleep)

3) If you have an unassisted birth at home, DO get inspected by a registered person (midwife, doctor etc.) when you are pregnant and get a letter from them. Otherwise getting a birth certificate and proving the baby is yours can be difficult. And also for safety reasons.
