Easy Way to Help Dolphins
While Improving Your Health
by Stephanie Relfe B.Sc. (Sydney)
Stop using dishwashing powder. Instead, wash your dishes with normal dish liquid, and then place them in the dishwasher. Use the dishwasher only for rinsing.
When I was pregnant, my sense of smell increased enormously. The smell of everything toxic was repellant to me. Nature and the body do this so as to protect the growing foetus and make sure you don’t eat anything that contains toxins. (For example, fruit has almost no toxins but vegetables have quite a few. Fruit WANTS to be eaten but vegetables do not).
But of all the smells, by far and away the most revolting one to me was the smell of the dishwashing powder, once the dishwasher was turned on. The smell was so poisonous that I could even smell it after my baby was born.
So, I began to think. If it’s that bad, then how bad is dishwashing powder for us long term? And how bad is it to have these chemicals make their way into the oceans? I believe, very bad. Think about it – you have a chemical that is so corrosive that it cleans dishes without any manual action at all.
Dishwashing powder in the oceans is very probably one reason why more and more sea tutles are being found with large growths on them.
So, we never use dishwashing powder anymore. I hope you will do the same. I wash the dishes with normal dish liquid, and then place them in the dishwasher. I use the dishwasher only for rinsing. Sometimes it’s a bit hard to remember if the dishes have been rinsed or not, so I put something in the dishwasher to let me know when they are still ‘dirty’ – unrinshed – like the dish liquid bottle, or a sticker on the fridge.
And the other way to help dolphins? Never go to an aquarium or zoo that has them. They are highly intelligent animals that should not be kept in cages. Save up your money and go and see them in the wild instead. Here are some people who do this:
