If you are low income, the US Department of Agriculture has a direct lending program that will lend to you the money to buy a home in a rural area, as long as the house is less than 2,000 square foot. The interest is only 2.87% with zero money down. You might buy a home for less than the rent of an apartment. They will let you roll all the costs into the loan. It might take only a few hundred dollars to move in.

If you are really low income, you might get the 33 or 38 year loan which makes your payments even lower.

It is called the USDA Single Family Home Direct Loan Program 101.

DO NOT get the “Guaranteed Loan Program” The interest is higher and they use banks.

You apply directly to the local office and they take care of everything. You just have to be able to make the payments.

You can even have a new house built if you wish to wait the 6 months for it to be built.

If living in the country make sure you have a fireplace to save money on electricity, and for power outages. Also make sure that you get trained with a handgun for protection against wild dogs and pigs.

Consider that if you get a place with some land, you can make money growing organic food, honey, organic free range eggs etc. See Mother Earth News for ideas. Also see the kind of wild food stuffs people sell on ebay.
