Secrets of Drinking Water:
Nothing is more important for your Health & Wellbeing
June 12, 2011
The very best book to learn about the secrets of water is “Your body’s many cries for water” by Dr. Batmanghelidj. Published in 1992, this is one of the most famous books among natural health circles. For the rest of this article, any quotes are from this book.
Water is needed to flush toxins out of your system. Note that I said ‘WATER’ and not ‘FLUIDS’. Fluids are not water.
Fruit juice is food.
Soda, Gatorade, tea and coffee are toxins.
Would you wash your windows with gatorade? Or your hair? No.
Just like a wild animal, your body wants PURE WATER.
Fluids are not ‘water’.
We have been taught that anything which has no calories cannot give us energy. And that only glucose will give energy to the brain. But the truth is that water gives energy to the brain !
“Recently it has been discovered that the human body has the ability to generate hydroelectric energy when water, by itself, goes through the cell membrane and turns some very special energy generating pumps; very much like the hydroelectric power generation when a dam is built on a river.” (p. 101). This creates a voltage which is converted and stored in the form of ATP and GTP. These two chemicals are vital cell battery systems. Thus we see that water is turned into CHEMICAL sources of energy in the body!. p. 18. (Note: salt is also needed to produce this hydroelectric energy).
“It now seems that the brain depends very extensively on energy formation from ‘hydroelectricity’.” Now, isn’t that amazing? Something that has zero calories gives you energy!
Also note what else this means – dehydration makes a person less intelligent. I believe that dehydration due to drinking soda instead of water is a contributing factor to declining abilities in schools and in life.
The brain is the most important organ in the body to keep functioning properly. Brain cells are 85% water.
“The front of the brain either gets energy from ‘hydroelectricity’ or from sugar in blood circulation. Its functional needs for hydroelectricity are more urgent – not only for the energy formation from water, but also its transport system … depends on water.
Thus, the sensation of thirst and hunger are generated simultaneously to indicate the brain’s needs. We don’t recognize the sensation of thirst and assume both indicators to be the urge to eat. We eat food even when the body should receive water’ (p. 99-100)
“We eat to supply the brain with energy for its constant round-the-clock activity. However, when food is eaten, only about 20% of it reaches the brain. The rest will gradually become stored if muscle activity does not use up its allocated portion. With water as a source of energy, this storage does not happen.” (P. 103).
Water regulates ALL functions of the body
Proteins and the enzymes of the body function more efficiently in solutions of lower viscosity. A body that is dehydrated has a higher viscosity. Therefore, it is water itself that regulates all functions of the body. p. 19.
Many health problems can be healed with correct water, plus sun-dried sea salt, intake alone
In the book Dr. Batmanghelidj explains how just drinking enough water at the right times can heal a huge range of symptoms. Plus a little sun-dried sea salt.
Chapter by chapter, with testimonials, he shows how water plus sun dried sea salt can heal, for example, the following health problems:
Alzheimer’s disease (because the brain cells shrink and then lose their functions, from prolonged dehydration. Imagine a plum turning into a prune – that is what the brain does without sufficient water)
Arthritis (because the joints contain much water as lubricant)
Asthma (the lungs are a main site of evaporation. If there is not enough water, the airways constrict to save water. Plus the lungs need to be moist to work properly. Dr. Batmanghelidj has numerous testimonials of people who completely healed their asthma after a month or more purely by increasing water (not fluid) intake, plus having a little salt.
Chronic pain – Including Rheumatoid pain, back pain, headaches, leg pain
Dyspeptic pain – Dr. Batmanghelidj treated WITH ONLY WATER 30 minutes before meals, over 3,000 persons with dyspeptic pain. All of these people had their pains disappear. (P. 26) Symptoms included:
Headaches & migraines
High blood pressure
Morning / Pregnancy sickness
Pain – such as in the neck (because there must be fluid in the spaces between the discs)
Why haven’t you heard about this? Could the fact that nearly HALF of all Americans are on prescription drugs have anything to do with it?

On the other hand, water is free (or almost free). So who is going to tell you about the healing and weight loss properties of water – not fluids – in a world that unfortunately so far is run more on greed than on love?
“Your body’s many cries for water” includes six testimonials (about half of the testimonials in the book) , where people reduce their weight by an amazing 35-45 pounds! They did this purely by increasing their water intake, and stopping drinking other drinks. Plus having a pinch of sun-dried sea salt. (Your body needs salt – that’s why your tears and sweat are salty. But it should be sundried sea salt, not sodium chloride).
One of the problems with recognizing that almost all of us are chronically dehydrated is because we think that we can’t be dehydrated – because water is so readily available. That is, it’s all around us. Just sitting there in the tap. But unless you actually DRINK enough water, all that water won’t do you any good. If you aren’t drinking enough water, you may as well be in a desert. Your body can be greatly dehydrated. It is hard for most people to realize that the answer to so many problems can be so simple. And so they ignore this most basic of needs of the body.
Water …. regulates ALL functions of the body. Water is essential for the body to live, and especially to move toxins around the body. It has to be very careful to regulate what parts of the body receive how much water – because it may be a long time before it receives more water.
The most important organ is the brain, so if there is limited water, the brain will receive the water and the other organs will go without. The brain is 2% of the total body weight, but it receives about 20% of blood circulation.
In advanced societies, thinking that tea, coffee, juices and sodas are desirable substitutes for water is a “catastrophic mistake”. (p. 6). While tea, coffee, beer and sodas do contain water, they also contain other substances which are dehydrating. They are dehydrating because they are toxic to the body – so the body requires MORE water to flush them out. It is a miracle and testimony of the power of the body to adapt to negative situations, that there are people who have never drunk plain water who are still alive.
“Currently, practitioners of medicine are unaware of the many chemical roles of water in the body.” (Editor’s note: This is largely because there’s no money in it). “Because dehydration eventually causes loss of some functions” (which can affect weight loss), “the various sophisticated signals given by the operators of the body’s water rationing program during severe and lasting dehydration have been translated as indicators of unknown disease conditions of the body. This is the most basic mistake that has deviated clinical medicine.” p. 6
>Medical practitioners have been taught to silence the signals (of dehydration) with chemical products ($$$) , instead of with water. p. 7
“The mistaken assumption that all fluids are equivalent to water for the water needs of the human body is the main cause of many of the ills of the human body, and it is frequently associated with the initial excessive gain in weight.” (p. 105).
“The human body is composed of 25% solid matter and 75% water. Brain tissue is said to be 85% water.” The solid matter is called the solute and the water is the solvent, that the solute sits in. p. 8
“At the moment, the “dry mouth” is the only accepted sign of dehydration of the body… This signal is the LAST outward sign of EXTREME dehydration.” (p. 10).
“The body can suffer from dehydration even when the mouth may be fairly moist.”. (p. 18). We know this in kinesiology, because there is a muscle test which shows how a person can be dehydrated, even when they do not feel that they are thirsty.
First you muscle test an arm – it should test strong. Then you gently tug on the person’s hair, and quickly muscle test the arm again. If the person is dehydrated, the arm will go weak. The correction is to give the person a drink of water, which will generally correct the weak muscle.
I believe that many sports injuries occur because the person is dehydrated, because they are drinking so-called ‘sports drinks’ instead of water. I believe this because there is a muscle test that shows that a body that is dehydrated has WEAK MUSCLES. So when the person falls over, the muscles do not hold the bones together strongly the way they were designed to do. And a body that is drinking water plus chemicals plus sugar will not be properly hydrated the way that a body that drinks plain water will be. But how many people will believe this when their favorite sports star endorses the drink? (The sales in 1997 of one sports drink were close to $2 BILLION).
Is a sports star going to give up all those million dollar endorsements and tell you that water is better for you?. I believe that the best way for people to see through the propaganda to the truth is to learn muscle testing and to see and feel this for themselves.
How can we be dehydrated if we don’t feel thirsty? This situation happened because we did not learn to drink water from childhood. Gradually, the body became less and less able to tell us when we were thirsty. “The “dry mouth” is the very last sign of dehydration. The body can suffer from dehydration even when the mouth may be fairly most.
“Proteins and the enzymes of the body function more efficiently in solutions of lower viscosity”. This means that if a person doesn’t not have enough water in their body, the body will not be work as well. When toxins come in, the body will be less able to handle them efficiently and will be more likely to dump them in the fat cells, to deal with later. That is, the person will be more likely to store fat. And naturally they will be less likely to burn excess fat that is already present.
Drink a minimum of 6-8, 8 ounce glasses of water BEFORE meals, every day
Adult humans should drink six to eight, 8 oz glasses of water everyday. (8 oz is 1 cup or 1/2 a pint). This should not be drunk all at once, as that can cause problems for the kidneys. It should be drunk throughout the day and especially before eating ANY food. The best time to drink is THIRTY MINUTES before a meal.
To lose weight, one of the most important things you can do is to drink two 8 oz glasses of water BEFORE EATING ANY BREAKFAST.
The reason that water should be drunk 30 minutes before a meal is this: It has been shown experimentally that water passes immediately into the intestines after drinking. It doesn’t stay in the stomach and make you feel ‘full’. But, within 30 minutes, almost the same amount of water is secreted into the stomach. Also, the pancreas empties a lot of a watery solution containing bicarbonates into the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine), when the stomach empties into there, to neutralize the acids from the stomach. (Without this watery substance, one can get all kinds of digestive pains).
All of this is needed for efficient food breakdown. The body needs lots of water to digest food properly. And to prevent pains related to digestion. The better you digest your food, the better your body will operate.
The reason why drinking water makes people feel ‘full’ is partly because most bodies are so out of balance that the person can no longer distinguish the difference between a thirst signal and a hunger signal. When the body signals a desire for water, it feels as though the desire is a desire for food. Drinking water solves the dehydration, and so the feeling of being ‘hungry’ evaporates – because it never was a cry for food in the first place.
A toxic body is more likely to be dehydrated, because the body needs so much extra water to move those toxins out of the body. And usually when a person is ingesting toxins, they are NOT ingesting water.
In fact, “the brain uses electrical energy that is generated by the water drive of the energy-generating pumps. With dehydration, the level of energy generation in the brain is decreased. Many functions of the brain that depend on this type of energy become inefficient. We recognize this inadequacy of function and call it depression. (p. 56)”. That is, drink enough water, before meals, and eat and drink less toxins, and you very well might feel less depressed.
In my kinesiology practice where I have helped many people to heal many health and emotional problems, I was not focusing primarily on weight loss. But just by doing kinesiology on them, and having them make some life-style changes that required them to heal their pain and health problems, a number people lost weight 8-20 pounds within a few weeks after seeing me.
One of the first things that is looked at in a proper kinesiology session is a muscle test that tests whether or not someone is dehydrated. It is so important to do, that it’s called a “pretest”, because if the person is dehydrated, any muscle tests will not give an accurate result.
It’s very simple to do, once you know how to muscle test properly. You give a gentle tug on a person’s hair or skin, and immediately afterwards, do a muscle test. Generally, an arm is tested. If the person is dehydrated, the person will not be able to hold up their arm, NO MATTER HOW STRONG THEY ARE. It has nothing to do with strength. When you muscle test you are communicating with the brain, which is far, far smarter than most people realize.
If the person is hydrated, there will be an electrical signal going from the brain to the muscle and back again, all the time. But if the person is dehydrated, this signal will not be working as efficiently as possible. When we muscle test, the signal will be stopped, and therefore the muscle goes weak.
The correction is simple. The person drinks a glass of water. Once they do that, generally the next muscle test you do will test strong. Although there are exceptions to this. I worked on one lady once who had terrible health problems. She was only in her 30s and yet she had already had three operations for her problems. No matter what I did, she kept becoming dehydrated during the session, so I had to keep giving her more and more water. This was such an unusual situation that finally I asked her how much water she normally drank. It turned out that she NEVER drank water! In fact, her mother had put coca cola in her bottle as a baby. No wonder she had such terrible health problems.
I have found in my own kinesiology practice that about half of the people who came to me were dehydrated. Now, these are the people who are already interested in natural health, so I suspect that if I muscle tested the general population for dehydration, the percentage of people who are dehydrated would be even higher.
I had often wondered how wild animals manage to stay healthy without drinking as much water as we need. I had my answer when I went on a completely raw diet for three weeks. During this time, I ate as much as I wanted so long as it was RAW fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. No dairy, and of course, no meat (since raw meat contains parasites). There are ‘cook’ books that tell you how to prepare raw food so that you don’t feel you are missing out on normal meals. By the end of the three weeks, I had lost ten pounds. And I looked five years younger and felt fantastic. An interesting discovery during this time was that I, who normally experienced a low level of thirst most of the time, lost the feeling of being thirsty. And muscle testing showed that I wasn’t dehydrated. I believe this is because just the process of heating food (which does not occur in nature) produces toxins, which have to be processed by the body. Animal bodies, which ours are, are designed for digesting raw food.
I believe that babies should be given some water from the moment they stop 100% breast feeding and start eating solid foods. Water intake should increase with solid food intake. Good habits such as drinking a glass of water (not juice) before meals, and throughout the day, should be instilled in children. (Put the money you would spend on juice and soda away for their college fund). If they have juice, consider it as food, not as a drink. Sodas are just extra toxins.
So, right now, please stop drinking ANY fluids except for water. And try to drink the water before meals, especially before breakfast. If you are working on a computer or driving a car, or anything else where your body is subjected to electromagnetic stress, sipping water periodically can help your body to withstand the electromagnetic stress.
What kind of water to drink?
Dr. Batmanghelidj believes that drinking tap water is good enough. And, if that is the only water you have, then he is correct. Even tap water will do more to help your health than no water.
But the trouble is that most tap water has a lot of toxins in it, which will make it harder for your body to do what it wants to do – namely, keep you trim and healthy. These toxins include the poisons chloride, fluoride and now many places are even finding a huge range of pharmaceutical drugs in the water!
Of these poisons, fluoride is by far the worst. On the global scale of poisons where five is the worst, fluoride rates 4 out of 5. There have been many cases reported of people having health problems who removed all fluoride from their lives (mostly in water and toothpaste) and their health problems went away.
It is important to remove toxins because it will make your body work better. But also because if the water tastes better, then you will naturally drink more of it.
Some people believe that distilled water is the best to drink but I believe this is wrong. Distilled water has been super heated – which never happens in nature. Heating water changes the energy of the water. There is a whole science to the properties of water that scientists are only just now staring to understand. If you want to know more, I highly recommend studying the work of genius Viktor Schauberger.
We personally drink only reverse osmosis water. The only water filter which removes fluoride is reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis water tastes great! You can get a portable filter reasonably cheaply from hardware stores or ebay. The filters should be changed about every 3 months. We always buy ours from cheaply from ebay.
If you start drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day, and drink nothing else, plus add some sun-dried sea salt to your food, and notice some good changes to your health or weight, please email me!
Unbelievable! European Union hits a new low: Brussels bureaucrats ban claims that water can prevent dehydration!
